Macau Open Badminton Press Conference

Officially sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF), organized by Badminton Federation of Macau, officially sponsored by Macau Sport Development Board, equipment sponsored by Protech, the “2015 Macau Open Badminton, Part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold Series” will commence on 24th through 29th November 2015 at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, Macau.

“Macau Open Badminton” is the annual spectacular international sport event in Macau.  It is also the tenth year that Badminton Federation of Macau to organize this tournament.  Passing through these 10 years, annually hosting smoothly and successfully, it is always depending on the full support of Macao SAR Government, Macau Sport Development Board, sponsors, media, and as well as the community.  It provides more opportunity for the Macau spectators to have the opportunity to witness the world’s top players playing in this high level and exciting competition, thereby helping to further enhance the popularity of badminton.

The 10th “Macau Open Badminton” is also the 11th BWF Grand Prix Gold Series tournament, one level below Super Series, with the total prize money of MOP$1,000,000 of this year.  The world ranking points of this tournament will also be included in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Qualification Period.


Until now, the organizing and promotion work has been preparing in full.  A total entry of 20 countries/regions including China, England, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and others, with total of 266 players and more than 100 officials was received after the due date of submission on 20th October 2015.  The players will participate in the five individual events, which are namely, Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed doubles.  The Draws was done at the BWF Headquarter Office in Malaysia on 3rd November 2015.  A high entry is received because of the world ranking points included in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Qualification Period.  Most of the well-known and top players, such as Liu Xiaolong/Qiu Zihan from China, Malaysia 1st Men’s Singles Lee Chong Wei, Adcock’s couple from England, Men’s Singles Son Wan Ho and Men’s Doubles Ko Sung Hyun Shin/Baek Cheol from Korea, Women’s Singles Yamaguchi Akane and Women’s Doubles Maeda Miyuki/Kakiiwa Reika from Japan, and also winner of World Championships Women’s Singles Intanon Ratchanok from Thailand, have also submitted their entries.

Since last year, BWF has excitingly packaged together for the first time for international broadcast for the new BWF Grand Prix Gold competition cycle for global viewing through its official media partner.  With the overall increase in the exposure over the world and the branding identity of the Grand Prix Gold Series, it is not only to increase the attractiveness and value of the tournament, enhancing the development of the Grand Prix Gold Series and local badminton tournaments, but also help promoting the local tourism, cultural and economic development in Macau.  Furthermore, in order to consistent with BWF guideline in organizing Grand Prix Gold Series, the Prize Awarding Ceremony of the five events will be done right after each final match of each event in this year, which is different from the format that Macau Open had been done in the past. 


The Referee and Deputy Referee will be officiated by BWF Referees from Peru and Cyprus.  The Macau team will be consisting of 6 males and 6 females players that will participate in Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles.  After the Draw was one on 3rd November, most of Macau players go to the Main Draw and hope to get their best results.

The ticket admission fee of the 10th “Macau Open Badminton” in the first 4 days (24th to 27th November) is MOP$150/person daily each, whereas the ticket admission fee for the Semi-Finals and Finals (28th to 29th November) is MOP$400/person daily each.  The tickets are available for sale at all the retails of Kong Seng and Macau Ticket.  Macau residents are entitled to receive 50% discount off, whereas non-Macau residents only enjoy 20% discount off before 22nd November 2015.  The tickets can be purchased either via Internet on www.macauticket.com or telephone call at (853)28555555.  All local residents and foreign visitors are welcomed to participate, and give support to the countries participating in the tournaments.
